Fed: 50 years since first royal visit down under
Fifty years ago today, a young Queen ELIZABETH made her first visit to Australia.
The eagerly-awaited 1954 tour is now set to be commemorated in an exhibition at the
Australian National Museum in Canberra.
More than three-quarters of the nation's then nine million people turned out to see
the Queen during her eight-week visit.
